WINTER RULES     (in force from October 2024)

Preferred Lies

When a player’s ball lies in a part of the general area (where grass has been cut to a fairway height) players may take relief once by placing the original ball or another ball and playing it from this relief area:

  • Reference point is spot of original ball
  • Relief area is within 6 inches of original position
  • Ball must not be nearer to the hole then the reference point
  • Ensure you mark your ball first before you pick it up
  • You are permitted to clean your ball before placing within the relief area

In proceeding under this Local Rule, the player must choose a spot to place the ball and use the procedures for replacing a ball under Rules 14.2b(2) and 14.2e.

Embedded Ball

No longer a local rule however please refer to Rule 16.3, in the R&A

Please be aware of Bunker filled with temporary water

Rule 16-1a (abnormal course conditions)

Due to wet conditions, some bunkers will become completely flooded and therefore Relief cannot always be taken in the bunker itself.

In these situations, the bunker can be deemed GUR (ground under repair) and classified as within the general area. Therefore, relief can be taken outside the bunker, WITHOUT PENALTY

NB: The committee can only use this rule on a case by case basis, and will post a rule for specific bunkers as and when justified

Breach of these rules is a General Penalty i.e. LOSS OF HOLE Match Play and TWO STROKES in Stroke play
